This Supercluster article discusses the importance of fire and oxygen for an alien species to be discovered. I  was asked to create a series of illustrations to accompany the article for publication.

Inspired by the designs, I took it upon myself to animate a short film combining the three original illustrations. This provided me the opportunity to experiment with some new animation techniques and was a fun exercise in how close I can match the animation to the source material.
